Assessment 1 instructions: adverse event or near-miss analysis
The event resulted from a patient’s medical management rather than from the underlying condition because it was caused by an action that was taken in managing the patient’s illness or injury. For example, if a patient is given a medication to treat their condition but it causes an adverse reaction, this would be considered to be the result of medical management rather than the underlying condition. Similarly, if a procedure is performed on a patient which leads to an unexpected outcome, this too can be attributed to medical management.
