Due to the physical and cognitive changes that come with aging, seniors are often more vulnerable to abuse. For example, memory issues can make it difficult for them to recognize when they are being taken advantage of financially or emotionally. In addition, seniors may be less likely to report incidents of abuse due to fear or embarrassment. Their decreased mobility can also leave them isolated from friends and family who could help protect them from exploitation. Finally, their increasing dependence on others for support can lead them to become victims of neglect if caregivers do not provide adequate care. All these characteristics put seniors at an increased risk of elder abuse and should be taken into consideration when designing plans for their health and well-being.
