Assessment tools and diagnostic tests in adults and children | NURS 6512 – Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning | Walden University
The assessment tool or diagnostic test I was assigned is the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). This self-report questionnaire is widely used in healthcare settings to help assess the severity of depression in adults. It consists of 21 items, each one with four possible responses ranging from 0 to 3 that measure symptoms associated with depression. Total scores range from 0 to 63, and higher scores indicate more severe levels of depression. The BDI-II can be administered by mental health professionals during an initial intake evaluation, as well as at periodic intervals throughout treatment in order to monitor progress and effectiveness of therapy. It can also help identify individuals at risk for developing clinical depression or those who may need further psychiatric intervention or medication management.
