What signs and symptoms of joint infection would you emphasize in your patient teaching?

In patient teaching about signs and symptoms of joint infections, it is important to emphasize the following:
•Pain in the affected area (which may worsen with movement)
•Redness or warmth at the site of infection
•Swelling or stiffness in the joint
•Fever and/or chills
•Fatigue or body aches
•Tenderness when touching or moving the affected joint
It is also important to note that any changes in skin color around a specific joint, as well as unexplained drainage from a wound near a joint, could be indicative of an infection. Patients should be advised to contact their healthcare provider if they experience any of these signs and symptoms.
