Iron deficiency anemia is a condition that occurs when the body lacks enough iron. It is one of the most common types of anemia, which is a lack of healthy red blood cells in the body. Iron deficiency anemia can cause fatigue, lightheadedness, and shortness of breath.
The probable cause of D.G.’s anemia could be due to inadequate dietary intake or absorption of iron, blood loss (such as heavy menstrual bleeding), chronic medical conditions (including cancer or gastrointestinal diseases that lead to malabsorption), parasitic infections, regular consumption of aspirin, or excessive exercise. Additionally, pregnancy increases the need for iron and can also be a cause for iron deficiency anemia in some cases.
