When a technologist presses the exposure button, they are initiating a sequence of events that controls the length and intensity of the X-ray exposure. A high voltage current is sent to an anode target, where it is converted into X-rays and projected onto the patient. During this fraction of a second, the X-rays pass through the body and are detected by special radiation detectors which measure their intensity. The result is an image that can be used for diagnosis or treatment planning.
