Refusal to delete inappropriate photos and material from social media accounts could have a very negative impact on an individual’s ability to get a job. Companies often research potential employees online, and postings or pictures that show poor judgement, bad behavior, or criminal activity can be extremely damaging for the applicant. In addition, employers are increasingly taking into account an individual’s digital footprint when making hiring decisions; refusal to delete these items may lead employers to believe that the candidate is not trustworthy or does not take responsibility for their actions. Furthermore, if the content in question contains offensive language or comments about certain groups of people it could make employers less likely to hire someone due to potential liability issues.
