One key point that stood out to me as a critical step in future negotiations is the importance of focusing on mutual gains. Most successful negotiations are those where both parties walk away feeling like they have achieved something and not just giving in to what the other person wants. This means actively listening to the other party, understanding their interests and developing creative solutions that meet both parties’ needs. It also involves taking a collaborative approach, viewing the negotiation as an opportunity for collaboration rather than competition. Being patient, open-minded and flexible during a negotiation can help create an environment that encourages compromise and creative problem solving which ultimately leads to longer lasting relationships built on trust.
