Theory and practice | N491
Nightingale’s Environmental Theory can be applied to many areas of nursing practice. For example, in the area of patient safety, nurses can use this theory to prioritize creating a safe and comfortable environment for their patients by paying special attention to factors such as adequate ventilation, temperature regulation, proper sanitation and hygiene practices, noise reduction measures, and lighting that is conducive for healing. Additionally, nurses can focus on providing emotional support to ensure that the patient is comfortable in their environment through effective communication and engaging activities tailored to the individual’s needs. By applying Nightingale’s Environmental Theory in this way, nurses are able to create an atmosphere of care that encourages positive outcomes without sacrificing the safety or comfort of their patients.
