Transcultural perspectives in mental health nursing
A nurse can ensure culturally competent care by being culturally aware, attentive to communication needs and traditions, and open-minded when providing care. Additionally, the nurse should be knowledgeable of different cultures’ beliefs about health and healthcare so that they can deliver the appropriate level of care. The nurse should also respect a patient’s cultural background, practices, and language preferences during treatment. Finally, it is important for the nurse to involve family members or other significant people in a person’s life as much as possible in order to establish trust and effectively communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds.
