Discussion board: management theory (leadership)
The four most popular theories of management in healthcare are the systems theory, human relations theory, contingency theory and bureaucratic theory. The systems theory is a holistic approach that focuses on understanding how components of an organization work together to achieve overall goals; it takes into account outside influences (i.e., environment) and emphasizes collaboration between individuals/groups within the system. The human relations school promotes effective communication as well as mutual respect between employees and managers; it also encourages managers to be more participative in decision-making processes rather than being strictly authoritative.
Contingency theory suggests that there is no one-size-fits all approach to managing organizations, instead different situations require tailored solutions based on the particular needs of each enterprise; this allows for more flexibility and greater employee input in finding the best course of action for achieving desired results.
Lastly, bureaucratic theory follows strict guidelines for creating policies & procedures which should be followed without deviation or individual interpretation; this helps ensure that everyone involved is held accountable for what they do/don’t do & gives clarity about roles & responsibilities within an organization. There isn’t necessarily one “better” option over another since each has its own pros and cons depending on context – but taking elements from multiple theories can create a comprehensive framework that meets organizational needs while still allowing room for creativity & growth.
