The benefits to evidence-based nursing practice include improved patient outcomes, decreased healthcare costs and risks, better efficiency in delivering care, increased job satisfaction among nurses, improved nurse autonomy and authority in making decisions about patient care, more trust from the public due to evidence-based interventions being founded on reliable research results.
Barriers to implementing evidence-based practices can include a lack of resources such as time or personnel; difficulty with technology use or access to relevant databases; challenges with interdisciplinary collaboration; cultural barriers in terms of attitudes towards research or unfamiliarity with implementable interventions that would improve quality of care; lack of motivation due to inadequate reimbursement for extra efforts or fear of retribution from superiors; limited coordinating within hospitals that leaves individual departments without the necessary resources and guidance needed for successful implementation.
