Describe how databases are used in your nursing practice, including a description of who maintains those databases.

I currently practice as a psychiatric nurse in an acute setting. Databases are essential to the delivery of quality care and are maintained by nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals. These databases provide important patient information such as medical history, medications, diagnoses, treatments and other related data. By maintaining these databases we can better track our patients’ progress over time and evaluate their response to interventions or treatments. They allow us to quickly identify potential issues that need attention and provide us with more accurate patient profiles for decision-making purposes.

Databases also facilitate communication between different disciplines working on a case or unit; this allows for more efficient collaboration when providing treatment or care. The database provides visibility into all aspects of the patient’s care including individual services identified within each discipline which ultimately helps support good decision-making. When making decisions about factors such as medication dosages or changes in treatment plans it is important for nurses to interpret data accurately so that appropriate action may be taken.

By meaningfully interpreting data from databases nurses can assess efficacy of treatments being rendered while identifying areas needing improvement in order to make better informed decisions regarding their patients’ healthcare outcomes. Interpreting data goes beyond systematically examining numbers – it involves obtaining insight into underlying trends and exploring opportunities for further development whenever possible
