Final individual project – interview assignment
The most surprising answer I received was when my interviewee shared how they had experienced prejudice and discrimination in their workplace due to their race or ethnicity. This was not something that I had considered before, and it made me realize how much more there is to comprehend when it comes to appreciating the complexities of different identity groups. The information caused me to think differently about workplace diversity and discrimination as it highlighted the need for a greater understanding and appreciation of differences between people from all backgrounds.
I learned that members of the identity group face unique challenges that may not be readily apparent to those who do not share that same identity. For example, my interviewee spoke about how they had experienced prejudice and discrimination in their workplace based on their race or ethnicity. This was something I had never thought to consider before and this newfound perspective has helped me gain a better understanding of how others may experience in the world. Additionally, the individual shared insights into the impression they felt when interacting with people from different backgrounds and identities than theirs – which provided an enlightening perspective on how diversity can benefit society as a whole.
The knowledge gained from my interviewee has affected the way I interact with members of this identity group as it has allowed me to approach them in a more informed manner. In order to promote equality, inclusion, and understanding within the workplace, we must create an environment where individuals feel safe and valued regardless of their background Course Material.
