Ethics are central to any successful health care system as they provide a framework for decision-making (Rudman & Miller 2010). As such, it is essential that any healthcare leader understand their role in promoting ethical behavior among themselves and their staff. An effective leader should not only model ethical behavior themselves but should also ensure that staff are familiar with processes used for resolving ethical dilemmas (Doorenbos & O’Connell 2006). Furthermore, they must be able demonstrate appropriate responsiveness when facing moral issues within the organization.
