Introduction – Background/History of the Organization:  Anthemis a Fortune 500 company that is one of the largest health insurance companies in America. It was founded in 1943 as an association to provide hospital care plans in Indiana, but has since grown into a nationwide provider with over 40 million members across 14 states (“About Anthem” 2019). Currently it provides Medicare and Medicaid coverage, disability insurance benefits and group life insurance policies for its customers. Anthem’s mission statement puts an emphasis on striving for excellence within their service areas while keeping their customer’s best interests first (“Mission & Values” 2018).
Operational Structure: Anthem operates as a publicly traded corporation on the New York Stock Exchange under stock symbol ANTM (“ANTHEM INC SEC Filings” 2020). A corporation is legally recognized entity that exists separately from its shareholders who are granted limited liability meaning they are not personally liable for any potential losses or debts incurred by their organization (“What Is a Corporation?”n.d.).
