Several years ago, the U.S. Congress canceled funding for the development of a battery-powered electric vehicle. Do you think that was a good decision? Can you imagine what the pros and cons were?
I do not believe it was necessarily a good decision for Congress to cancel funding for the development of a battery-powered electric vehicle. This is because electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative form of transportation due to their environmental advantages over gasoline powered cars (Harms & Smolnik, 2017). Additionally, developing this type of technology could help reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil (Harms & Smolnik, 2017). While there may have been other factors involved in this decision at the time such as inadequate funds or public opinion etc., I would argue that investing in these types of projects can be beneficial beyond just short term political gains.

In terms of any potential pros and cons associated with changing direction and canceling this project there could be both positive and negative implications depending on how one chooses to view them. For example, investing in new technologies has long been viewed as risky investments due to risk associated with unforeseen technical failures or mismanagement (Mueller et al., 2015). Therefore canceling government investment into such a project could limit financial losses while simultaneously opening up additional opportunities elsewhere such as renewable energy sources or infrastructure projects like bridges and roads which provide more immediate returns on the taxpayer money invested however nixing something like clean energy initiatives could also demonstrate ineffective use of taxpayer dollars especially when considering longer term sustainability goals .
