Ethics project | Business & Finance homework help
In today’s business environment, ethical conduct is of paramount importance in order to maintain a successful and profitable company. As such, it is important for managers to have a strong understanding of ethical principles in order to make sure that their decisions and actions are ethically sound. This paper will explore the design, conduct and evaluation of an ethics project conducted at XYZ Company which aimed to assess the current level of ethical conduct within the organization. Utilitarianism as a framework for evaluating ethical behavior was used during the project.
Design
The first step in designing an effective ethics project is setting clear objectives so that goals can be identified and outcomes can be properly evaluated. In this case, our goal was to evaluate current levels of ethical behavior within XYZ Company using utilitarianism as our guide. We began by developing surveys that were distributed among all levels of staff from entry-level employees up through senior executives with questions about their experiences related to their interactions with colleagues as well as with management on topics such as fairness in work assignments and respect for individual differences.
Conduct
After we had designed and created our surveys they were sent out electronically via e-mail or via paper depending on individual preferences expressed by each employee. A total of 130 employees completed the survey which provided us with invaluable data regarding perceptions concerning workplace ethics at XYZ Company.
Evaluation
Once all responses had been collected they were then analyzed according to utilitarian principles which dictate that any action should produce optimal results with minimum suffering or inconvenience whenever possible (Gorman et al.,2013). The results revealed areas where levels of perceived unethical behavior could be improved upon along with recommendations for changes that could more closely align behaviors at XYZ Company with those suggested by utilitarianism .
