Case study of Ms. Janet Steel a 26-year-old female.

Ms. Janet Steel is a 26-year-old female with a History of HTN, Anxiety, Asthma, Hypochondria and PCOS who was admitted to Millwood Hospital due to a Panic Attack she experienced 1 month ago. Her current assessment on admission revealed that she has Illogical Thought Processes, Flat Affect & Moderate Insight/Judgement. She had an Anion Gap of 13 mmol/L and her WBC count was 8 x10E3/ul.  Her Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test results were 28 mg/dL which is above the reference range 9-20 mg/dL indicating that there was dehydration present as well as possibly renal involvement or impaired kidney function in this patient. Labs also indicated that Sodium levels were high at139 mmol/L compared to its reference range 137 -145 mmol/L which could indicate Hypernatremia versus Hyponatremia.

The plan for Ms. Steel is to assess for the presence of Hyoponatremia or hypernatrema through further lab testing such as serum sodium level along with other electrolyte panel tests; BUN tests are done regularly for monitoring renal dysfunction so these should be monitored along with creatinine levels during admission stay . Treatment should include managing anxiety by administering benzodiazepines when needed until an effective anti-anxiety medication can be identified ; Additionally medical management includes controlling blood pressure hypertension medications should be adjusted accordingly while addressing her hypoglycemic state through appropriate insulin management if necessary .
