The first question that prompted me was “What am I going to do with the rest of my life?” After just graduating college, I felt lost and uneasy about the future. Although I was certain that I wanted the world to be better, I wasn’t sure how.
My goal was to travel around the world and gain perspective. My savings were enough to buy a round-trip ticket and I set out on my adventure. My travels took me to Peru, India and Thailand. I also volunteered for various charities.
I faced many difficulties while traveling. Language barriers, cultural differences and homesickness were all challenges I encountered. However, I met the most inspirational and resilient people that I have ever encountered. After seeing firsthand how individuals and groups can impact their communities, I decided that I was ready to make that change.
With a renewed sense of purpose, I came home to find my new purpose. My decision was to return to school in order to continue my studies in international development, and to pursue a career as a nonprofit worker.
