Documentary reveals that the individuals and organisations, sometimes called “merchants for doubt,” used strategies such as creating uncertainty and misinforming people and lobbying for policy delay on crucial scientific issues to preserve the interests of their industries.
This position can be supported by the most convincing documentary. It shows the historic patterns and strategies of these merchants who doubted scientific claims. The tactics employed to denialize the damaging effects of acid rain and tobacco smoke were very similar to the ones used to deny climate change. In the documentary, it was shown that the same people and organizations were involved in several controversies. This further strengthened the belief of a few individuals using similar strategies to attack scientific research.
