Executive Summary
As a middle manager for one of the top U.S. producers of luxury and mass-market automobiles and trucks, I have been leading a cross-functional team in charge of implementing an IoT innovation project and submitting a plan for enabling innovation in the organization. After successfully implementing the project, it is now time for recommendations for future proofing the company’s processes, structures, and culture of innovation.
Firstly, to support continuous innovation, I recommend making innovation a permanent part of the company’s values and culture. This can be achieved by promoting a culture of experimentation, encouraging employees to share ideas, and providing resources for innovation. Additionally, I recommend setting up a dedicated innovation team and establishing a clear innovation strategy.
Furthermore, to support continuous innovation, I recommend specific organizational structures and processes such as creating an innovation council and setting up an innovation lab. The innovation council would be responsible for guiding the innovation strategy and the innovation lab would be responsible for testing and implementing new ideas.
In terms of potential roadblocks to making the company more innovative, I expect to find organizational resistance in the form of a lack of resources and a lack of understanding of the benefits of innovation. To overcome this resistance, I recommend providing training and education to employees on the importance of innovation and providing resources such as funding and equipment.
Overall, the above recommendations if implemented successfully, would help in futureproofing the company’s processes, structures, and culture of innovation.
