A specific situation where the coaching leader style has helped me accomplish a task was when I was working on a group project in college. I was tasked with leading the group, but I was feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. Our team’s coach-style leader, our professor, helped guide me through the process by asking questions to help me identify my own strengths and weaknesses, and then assisting me in developing a plan to effectively manage the project. By helping me to identify my own strengths, the coach-style leader helped me to build confidence in my ability to lead the team and ultimately helped us successfully complete the project.
A specific situation where the authoritative leader style has helped me accomplish a task was when I was working as a customer service representative. I was struggling with a difficult customer and was not sure how to handle the situation. Our supervisor, who had an authoritative leadership style, stepped in and took control of the situation by clearly communicating the company’s policy and expectations for customer service. By providing clear direction and enforcing consequences for noncompliance, the authoritative leader helped to defuse the situation and maintain order.
The importance of adapting your leadership style based on the situation is crucial because different situations call for different approaches. A coach-style leader may be more effective in a situation where a team member needs guidance and support in developing their own skills, while an authoritative leader may be more effective in a situation where there is a lack of direction and discipline. Adapting one’s leadership style allows a leader to effectively address the specific needs of the situation and ultimately lead to more successful outcomes.
One person in my life that I consider to be a great leader is my current manager. Some of the character traits of this person include being approachable, empathetic, and strategic. Their strengths as a leader include their ability to effectively communicate and delegate tasks, as well as their ability to inspire and motivate their team. I have felt that this person has been an effective leader because they have been able to create a positive work environment and have provided clear goals and direction for the team. Based on my observations, I would say that this person’s leadership style is a combination of democratic and coaching. They always encourage participation and input from the team, and make sure that everyone’s voice is heard. At the same time, they also provide guidance and support for team members to develop their skills and reach their full potentials.
