Philosophy is a field of study which has been important in explaining various cosmological events. The study of reality, knowledge and existence is also a part of philosophy. Because of its nature, philosophy is causing contemporary debate about the relation between science and philosophy as well as their respective roles in the definition and expression of knowledge. With their analysis of the existence and knowledge, Descartes and Russell made significant philosophical contributions. Banks (2014). Scientists like Einstein or Newton, however, refined the notion through scientific and practical research. Because of their many similarities in purpose and method of examining it, there is strong ties between science and philosophy.
Both science and philosophy investigate the nature of knowledge. Philosophy focuses on the past, while science investigates and examines the existence empirical knowledge. Russell and Descartes, along with other philosophers, examine the veracity phenomena like the existence and experience of animals. Because they focus on information before empirical observation, these components are called priori knowledge (Russell 2013, 2013). On the other side, science is responsible for discovering these phenomena and aspects by empirically examining ideas and engaging in empirical observation to identify the logistical drivers. Russell claims philosophy can be classified as science since they focus on creating definitive answers from presuppositions. Most mathematical and scientific models such as number theory and the Pythagorean Theory were created by philosophers Eudoxus and Pythagoras. They were then classified as scientific models when empirical research provided answers to the questions raised by these theories (Russell and The Selected Letters from Bertrand Russell Volume 1, 1992). Because philosophy encourages creativity and the knowledge required for scientific discovery, science and development, it is intertwined with philosophy.
Russell played a significant role in establishing philosophy’s value and purpose. Philosophy’s main purpose is to increase understanding or knowledge of the phenomenon or item under study. But he believes that it is important to not develop definitive answers to philosophical questions. However, this promotes knowing through reducing dogmatism. Russell believes that philosophy’s significance lies more in its grandiosity than in creating definitive solutions.
