This action plan addresses the obesity problem in Texas. According to the TxOHC, Texas is ranked eighth for obesity in America. In Texas, the obesity rate increased significantly between 2013-2017 (by 2.9%). Vittrup & McClure (2018) report that obesity has increased by a significant amount in children between 6 and 11 years old, while it has increased threefold for adolescents 12 through 19. Poor dietary habits and inactivity are the main causes of obesity. A rise in death rates among people over 60 due to obesity has been linked to health problems. It is imperative to take action because of the effects of this illness.
A rise in weight is one of the first signs that you are obese. As a result, there are other symptoms. Other symptoms include sleep apnea and joint or back pain, excess sweating, infection in the folds of skin and sensitivity to temperature rises.
Diagnosis
An examination is performed to determine if the patient has obesity. Calculating the BMI for the patient and assessing the severity of any problem (The Clinic Barcelona Hospital Universitari 2021). Obesity is caused by poor eating habits and lack of exercise. Vittrup & McClure (2018) state that childhood obesity can be caused by parents’ inactivity and ignorance of healthy foods. Healthy food can be expensive so junk food is easily available. Poor eating habits are also common because most people don’t know how to live a healthy lifestyle.
