On this topic, I stand by the fact that law enforcement should never engage in racial profilers. This is because it not only is unethical but also ineffective, and is harmful to society. Racial profiling involves the selection of an individual’s race, ethnicity, and other factors in order to decide whether they are willing to participate in law enforcement activities, such as searches, arrests, and other types of scrutiny. The assumption that certain ethnicities or races are more likely than others to be involved in criminal activities is the basis of this practice. This can cause discrimination and unfair treatment for innocent people.
Implementing policies and procedures to explicitly ban racial profiling within law enforcement can be one way of dealing with the problem. These policies could be implemented as training for officers in law enforcement on the dangers of unconscious bias and racial profiling. Oversight mechanisms can also be established to monitor compliance with these policies.
