Recent census data shows that America’s population is increasing in diversity. Health care facilities must devise a policy that accommodates patients’ diverse views, values and beliefs. Without such a policy, it is possible for the quality of multicultural health care to drop drastically. Cultural competency has been a major topic in recent discussions and publications. This method requires a comprehensive understanding, attitude and ability to care for residents living in multicultural areas. Nursing staff must keep in mind the cultural contexts of their area. Ethnopharmacology is a curriculum component that has been adopted by most medical educational institutions. This module examines culturally diverse consequences of drug use. More action is needed. A nurse’s culturally competent attitude equivocally transfers into a good carer (Echeverri & Chen, 2016). Cultural preconceptions will be eliminated from the nurse’s practice. Non-residents can access healthcare by integrating additional skill sets such as translation. Three factors are necessary to create a hospital that is culturally competent: nurses’ attitude and knowledge as well as their abilities.

Cultural care is a careful assessment of the beliefs and culture history of the patient when developing a treatment plan. In order to understand client expectations and behaviors, the nurse needs to consider ethnicity, culture and race. Theorists like Leininger have suggested a range of models to help nurses demonstrate cultural competence in their care. Leininger argues unambiguously, that client care is affected by a nursing staff lacking cultural diversity training. This was transcultural nursing as a result, according to the theory. Similar approaches such as Giger and Davidhizar’s Transcultural Assessment Model or the Purnell Model for Culture Competence stress that each client must be considered when providing treatment (Shen 2015).
