American diversity is increasing rapidly. Although there are initiatives that aim to increase diversity by gender, age and ethnicity, they have not had much success. Faculty diversity levels also do not reflect the needs of communities and nursing students. These lessons must be incorporated into therapeutic practice. Statistics have shown that people who are less fortunate receive worse care, suffer from more chronic diseases, and tend to have poorer health. They feel less welcome by health care workers and sometimes the language barrier can hinder service delivery. Nurses must have cultural competency in order to communicate with this community.
It is possible to offer superior care by understanding the cultural differences and similarities of health care providers.
For patients to receive superior care, it is essential that they are provided with culturally-appropriate nursing care. This often leads to improved care for the community.
Hispanics and African Americans both see the family as their fundamental social unit. They value collaboration and support one another when they are in need.
Access to quality health care is a challenge that both Latinos as well as African Americans face. Black Americans care more about Ethical and Legal issues than Latinos. There are significant differences in how health information is communicated and what health needs are. They are also more likely to pursue long-term care and to adopt a selfcare approach to health.
Corona Virus has revealed racial disparities in the access of minorities to medical care.
This epidemic exposed the long-standing inequalities in health care for minorities and increased social and economic variables that can often result in poor quality health care (Bhopal 2020). Both are more likely to develop major medical problems if they have asthma or other underlying conditions (Bhopal 2020).
African Americans are at greater risk for being uninsured, and without a source of regular care. This hinders them from accessing medical treatment.
African Americans are likely to work as service workers in the retail industry, where there is a higher risk of losing revenue during an epidemic.
Numerous research studies have shown that the COVID-19 outbreak has had an adverse impact on minorities, thereby increasing the racial disparities.
