In 1800, the first concepts of nursing were created by thought leaders who placed a high priority on education. Modern nursing practice requires well-formed theories that are evidence-based. The purpose of this article is to provide a complete explanation about what nursing care entails, their responsibilities, and why they do so. According to Salifu and colleagues. Salifu et al. (2019) state that nursing theories are the basis for foundational ideas and goals to guide and direct nursing practice in a specific context. These theories can be illustrated with ideas, rules or techniques, which are logically based to highlight, predict, and regulate the practice of nursing.
Charlotte Nightingale
Florence Nightingale’s 1859 Environmental Theory defines nursing as the “act of using the environment to help the patient recover.” These are the skills nurses can use to create major environment settings that will help a patient recover. This also highlights the influence of external factors on the patient’s health and wellbeing. Sher Akhtar and others have highlighted this topic (2018). Florence Nightingale identified crucial environmental factors such as food and shelter, hope and guidance and drainage. The Environmental Theory holds that patients should live in a natural environment. A second idea is that humans can achieve perfection. Sher (2018) and Akhtar (2018) have scientifically proven that nursing is an occupation. It can be considered both an art form and science. Nursing is possible through environmental modifications and continued education. Second, nursing can be a multifaceted and different profession from medicine.
