The impact of mental health on a person’s well-being is crucial. Therefore, it’s important to ensure that the best possible measures are taken to support a mentally healthy person. Therapy and counseling are the best methods to address mental problems and improve mental health. Therapy and counseling are designed to help people change their worldviews and encourage optimism, which can lead to better mental health. Counseling can be based on many theoretical approaches. Cognitive behavioral therapy and the personal-centered approach theory were two popular models that have been used to create a shift in mental health and a new paradigm.
Theories
A theory called the person-centered approach addresses the connection between how our environment affects our psychological development and how it is affected by external influences (Jones, 2020). Therefore, individuals tend to lose touch and chase the psychological development of other people and become detached from their inner and self-actualizing psychological development. Cognitive-based therapy, on the other hand, emphasizes the link between an individual’s thoughts, perceptions and actions (David, et al. 2018). Mindfulness-based and psychodynamic methods, which have also been used in counseling and therapy for centuries, are two additional models.
Applying Theory and Its Implications
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a reliable and relevant approach to the development and maintenance of desirable experiences and qualities in people. It can be used in combination with the person-centered approach, which encompasses all possible aspects that could have an impact on an individual. Cognitive-behavioral treatment aims to change an individual’s perceptions, beliefs and actions in order to address their emotions (Jones 2020). CBT considers that humans are Aaron Beck and Albert Ellis. Ellis contributed to rational emotive behavior. This greatly influenced the way perceptions and emotions shaped human conduct. To examine the way people perceive themselves, personal-centered theory might be useful. Counseling clients should address both their inner and outer anxieties. CBT works by changing people’s reactions to external stimuli. The personal-centered approach, however, can be used to ensure that people have a positive, self-respecting outlook, which will improve their lives.
