For a number of reasons, I believe that 1993’s Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), is harmful to women. The FMLA may be causing inequality and disparity by ignoring the fact that women care for more of the childrearing duties. Because of their role in childrearing, society norms gradually restrict options for women. This directly applies to the FMLA. Women are more responsible for their children’s care than men after childbirth due to the prevailing social norms. These include the absence of child care options, market systems, exclusions and pressures from high-paying jobs. A selection method would be valid if it was fair and uniformly administered. An improper selection strategy can give one candidate an unfair advantage or offer a job to someone they are not qualified for. An organization can ensure the accuracy of its selection process by consistently and objectively collecting data. I’m familiar with the job of nurse. One day may see a nurse in action at a hospital. Interviews and formal presentations are two possible strategies to share the learning and experience.
It is easier to manage a unionized workforce than one that is not, since employers have the option of either an hourly or monthly wage. Nonunion workers can negotiate, however. Unionized workers have full access to their union, even if they feel they were treated unfairly. It may be easier for temporary workers to manage, as they have no fixed work hours. These employees are often willing to work longer hours in exchange for higher compensation. It would be hard to manage permanent staff, as they tend to have their own ways of working. Since I could make more, it would be easier to work long hours in a temp job rather than permanent.
