Leadership relies on their experience and the positional influence of others to get people to accept certain cultural or behavioral norms. Modern companies employ people of all cultural backgrounds and ages. Diversity is the act of recognizing and valuing the cultural diversity of others (Kinicki & Fugate, 2020). Inclusion allows individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds to participate actively in business activities.
What leadership does for the culture
Leaders use their positions to create rules and guidelines that guide the conduct of employees. Leaders are able to formulate forward-thinking policies which promote inclusion and ban prejudice. Google’s diversity policy and division for human resources diversity are designed to provide fair employment opportunities for people of all socio-cultural backgrounds. Leadership at Google has a policy of inclusion to prevent harassment and discrimination. By displaying ideal values and encouraging others, the leadership of the organization also has an impact on the culture. The role of leaders is to set the example for others and insure that their actions reflect corporate culture (Rosenbach 2018, 2018). Google guarantees diversity in its board and executive leadership to encourage inclusion. To promote inclusion, it is important that members of minority and disadvantaged communities are properly represented throughout the organizationograms. A leader makes sure that all values are consistent and communicated throughout business processes. Fairness is guaranteed by the leadership in recruitment, advancement, training, and development.
The Benefits of Inclusion
Inclusion strengthens a company’s image, attracts quality clients and maintains market share. A company’s ability to accept diversity could threaten its long-term viability and undermine brand equity. Adidas leadership, for example, was criticized by consumers in 2020 because they wanted to help Black Lives Matter. But, their board of directors isn’t diverse. Leaders’ credibility and reputation is enhanced by diversity and inclusion. Because they can access information from multiple perspectives, inclusiveness and diversity improve the leadership’s decision-making quality.
Diversity is the ability to interact with people of different backgrounds and views. Diversity can be used by leaders to inspire creativity and innovation. Leaders may also encourage other people to offer their ideas and perspectives, and involve them in the decision making process.
