The media’s role as socialization agents is cause for concern. Many people don’t understand the importance of media in shaping culture. Its infotainment abilities are a concern. Media bias, which is the result of unethical behavior in media, can be a controversial issue. It indicates that individuals are improperly socialized if they are exposed to untruessing media. Because of its enormous influence on human behavior and the importance of media, bias charges must be investigated.
Owners have been able to infiltrate the media with their private agendas. Greenberg (2018) and Page (2018) report that individuals recognize the power of the media to influence public opinion. Corporate owners and politicians have therefore invested in the media to achieve their goals. Although media professionals might not be openly prejudiced, many do. The content of the message can reflect the prejudice. For example, some media outlets have called President Trump irresponsible (Schiffer 2021). Even when Trump is honest, media outlets will bundle this information to declare that Trump avoided recklessness. It is not Trump’s irresponsibility that the media portrays. Although the media uses messaging to disguise their biases, it’s obvious that they do.
It is important to control the media, as this will ensure journalistic integrity. Many journalists accept bribes or engage in unprofessional behavior. Different stakeholders seek favorable opinions to support their political or corporate interests. The media can be used for this purpose. Journalists will behave ethically when there are constraints. Regulating media company owners is also necessary. Some individuals or organizations, especially those who are in the public eye should not be allowed to own media firms.
