People who are charismatic and can convince others to follow a particular course of action are essential for social movements. To help people understand the importance of creating a sustainable society, charismatic leaders communicate their vision to them. Martin Luther King remains a champion for civil rights (Haris. 2021). He organized demonstrations and gave inspiring speeches such as, “I Have a Dream.” Alicia Garza utilizes social media platforms to bring together individuals in support of social justice.
Text abstract
King used his I have a vision speech to motivate the black community and society towards justice and equality. King believed social justice was an individual’s moral obligation and that it is the best way to unite people. King encourages people to seek social justice through nonviolent means, as the fates of Black and White are interrelated. King says that African Americans should trust all whites (Rare fact, 2017). King also spoke out in hope for the black community, stating that eventually they will be treated equally with all other races. Blacks must be able to engage in and compete on an equal basis with all races, he stated.
Alicia Garza’s lecture focuses on the discriminatory structural barriers that black people face today and the injustices that oppression creates. Alicia Garza’s lecture focuses on systemic racism in relation to the low pay, the absence of decent healthcare, the high prisoner rates, as well as other oppressed groups like LGBTQIA+ (Harris 2021). Alicia Garza’s speech also highlights the need for society to reduce the risk of prejudice and police violence. According to her, the Black Lives Matter philosophy is based on the horrific acts of the black community.
Comparison of Charisms
Martin Luther’s exceptional oratory skills made it possible to persuade and organize others. Martin Luther employs many literary strategies in his speech “I Have a Dream,” including repetition, metaphor and allusions. Martin Luther’s impact was significant on the Civil Rights Movement. (Harris. 2021).
Alicia Garza has oratory skills, but her charisma and impact are not as great as those of Martin Luther King. Human Rights and Social Justice activists are using the movement to demonstrate their desire to build a just and equitable society. They use inequalities such as the police brutality and pay gap to encourage others to support their cause (Center for Constitutional Rights 2015). Martin Luther is known for his persuasiveness and authority, which led to him being associated with civil rights movements. Garza uses data, however to prove that black lives do matter.
Location is an important aspect
The key hubs of civil rights protests mobilization were churches, so Dr. King spoke in a church. Most civil rights activists made use of the church to educate black people about the injustices they suffered and the need to build a just, equitable society. In addition, the church offered a perfect setting to promote the Christian core virtues of justice, love, equality, justice and fairness. Luther’s statement was delivered in church because he was also a priest. Lincoln Memorial served as a reminder of Abraham Lincoln’s ideal ideas. It was strategically placed (Harris 2017). Luther states in his dream that children would play together and that individuals should be evaluated on the basis of their character and not their race. He is echoing Abraham Lincoln’s ideals, as well as the Bible’s focus on human equality.
