The company was accused of conspiring with other organisations in order to manipulate politics across the globe. The scandal also includes 2016 US presidential election. (Kozlowska (2018)
The firm was accused of engaging in human psychological torture and manipulating people data and share to influence the success of particular politicians (Venturini & Rogers, 2019). It was also illegal to violate individuals’ privacy. The company was wrong in sharing user’s personal data without their consent. This resulted in the practice of political marketing. These unprofessional programs and practices should be avoided in future operations.
Moreover, it was evident that the company also used user’s friend’s data and manipulates the public opinion. This was done by creating public profiles for users and selling the data to political leaders in order to use them during elections (Fuller 2019,2019). Trump became a respected leader who was liked by all of society. It’s psychological torture, and political manipulation of customers and public.
It involved the collection of data from 50 million Americans to make a profile of Trump supporters (Kozlowska, 2018). The company also did the same unethical practice in Russia to show how political manipulation can help political leader’s successes. To maintain the company’s good image globally, it is an unacceptable practice that must be stopped.
