Individuals’ ability to adapt to changes is affected by their corporate culture. An institution that is innovative and creative and has a transformational leader embraces change. The organizational culture can influence how employees see and respond to change. An organization that is unable to make decisions and has unclear processes can have a negative view of change (TEDx Talk 2016, 2016). But, change is welcomed by proactive organizations because it offers opportunities to grow and explore. The organizational culture can also influence individuals’ willingness to adjust to changes. A culture that encourages action by individuals drives change. Institutions with poor cultures are reactive, as they are affected and adapt to changes.
Covid-19 disrupted the physical process and forced companies and schools into virtual communication. Zoom was the teleconferencing software I used to connect with my business partners, classmates and tutors remotely. Since I consider it an opportunity for me to develop and expand my skills, I find myself naturally open to changing. The covid-19 pandemic helped me to increase my technical and technological expertise. While I was scared by the uncertainties of the pandemic, and by the cost of the transition I still loved my institution’s virtual classrooms as well as its telecommuting policy.
Management contributed to the process of change by explaining the reasons, the impact and the workers’ roles. Management explained to employees the reasons for telecommuting and the effects of teleworking. They also encouraged each worker’s participation in achieving the set performance goals. Management also assisted in the process of transformation by educating all employees about teleconferencing and telecommuting. Management developed complex training programs for employees to improve their competence during the transition process. Management provided constant input during the entire process. They can communicate their operational requirements and obligations to staff and define their expectations through feedback (TEDx Talk, 2020). It was also recognized by the administration that staff who utilized it effectively in achieving great outputs.
