It involves analyzing our views about health and how medicine is developed and used in various ways to treat different types of illness. To create and manage healthcare organizations using health informatics, we study how doctors and patients organize themselves. Informatics has become an essential part of modern healthcare (Aziz, 2015).
Informatics’ growth as a medical discipline has been aided by information technology. Healthcare professionals now have access to rich communication networks. Informatics is the process of storing information on electronic devices. It’s also known as computer technology (Aziz (2015)).
These are two key components of any system for information technology in health. People and data. The relationship between the two is explored by this essay. We will first discuss electronic health records and their impact on the medical workforce. EHRs allow users to easily access patient-centric data that is secure and fast. EHR systems have the ability to save patient records, including treatment history. EHR systems will give users more access than traditional medical information that’s gathered at the doctor’s offices. The potential for EHRs to be used directly or in indirect ways for healthcare-related purposes is great. EHRs can be used for quality management or reporting results.
EHRs are the next step in healthcare advances and can strengthen relationships between patients, their doctors, and each other. EHR data will allow medical experts to deliver better healthcare and make more informed decisions. EHR management software is one example. This can increase patient care and reduce medical errors. It also reduces test duplication, reduces medication delays and ensures improved decision-making for patients who are well educated (Khalil & Jones, 2007).
There is increasing literature about EHR benefits. However, some authors have identified possible drawbacks. This technology could have several problems, such as the cost and productivity loss associated with setting it up. Since everything is computerized some physicians have opted to provide a diagnosis based on the patient’s digital records (Menachemi & Collum, 2011).
