Erb’s Palsy can be caused by a shoulder or arm injury. This condition is characterised as muscular weakness. This is more common in newborns who sustained shoulder injuries following delivery. Five nerves are connected to the spine through the brachialplexus. The nerves that run from the shoulder, arm and hand allow you to identify and move those bodily parts. Brachial Palsy, which is a condition in which nerves from the upper arm, called the brachial complexus, become stretched or ruptured, is known as brachial. Erb’s palsy, the most frequent type of brachial palsy, is the most severe. The nerves in the upper plexus can be affected. Palsy is another name for the medical condition palsy. It is defined as muscle weakness or paralysis.
The Erb’s Point is neurologically located between 2 and 3 cm above the Brachial Plexus collarbone. The result is when you combine the C5 and C6 root. Erb’s palsy can affect the axillary and suprascapular nerves.
An extension of the posterior nerve, the axillary nervous receives fibers of segments C5 to C6 from the spinal cord. The posterior exiting of the axillary fossa via quadrangular space and posterior circumflex. Five nerves rise to the superior-lateral brachialcutaneous nerve. This nerve then twists and turns around the surgical neck. This nerve is responsible for the supply of the shoulder joint and deltoid as well as the skin on the upper arm.
The terminal branch from the lateral cord is where the Musculocutaneous Nerve originates. It receives fibers ranging from C5 up to C7. After leaving the upper arm and descending between the brachial and bicep muscles, the forearm nerve becomes the lateral forearmcutaneous nerve. The nerve provides the skin of the lateral forearm as well as the muscles in the anterior portion of the arm.
Fibers of C6, C5 and sometimes C4 nerves are found in the superior trunk. To reach its destination, it traverses the lateral neck region, goes over the brachial area and finally enters into the superior transverse ligament-abrupt, scapular, notch. The nerve is responsible for the supraspinatus (infraspinatus), shoulder joint, and other areas.
Brachial plexus birth paralysis (BPBP), is a condition that affects between 0.8-1% of American newborns.
Erb’s palsy accounts for around 45% BPBP. C7 may be damaged further in 20 percent of BPBP instances.
Permanent disability is a condition that can cause permanent disabilities in between 3 and 25%. It is important to gauge the progress made over the first couple of weeks. There is a good chance that there will not be any progress within the first 2 weeks.
A 2007 study by Weizsaeker and colleagues found that membership in the black community was independent of Erb’s palsy. (Vakhshori, et. al. 2019, 2019).
