In 2001, the USA Patriot Act was another piece of legislation to improve security. A law was passed following the September 11th terrorist attacks. It expanded surveillance powers of law enforcement by tapping international and domestic phones. Additionally, it increased penalties and punishments for terrorist-related offenses. v.
